no creation of _original file

I am using exiftool to modify some of the TAGS, in particular EXIF data.
Assuming I am using exiftool on DSC02393.jpg, exiftool creates a file named DSC02393.jpg_original
Is there a way to tell exiftool to avoid creating this _original file?
