Hi Phil, Nice to hear from you! I'm uploading via mailbigfile.com so you'll get a link shortly. Just guessing here but think the image is corrupted because some of the data got fused or mixed with another ARW with the same file number, so you'll get two links to download both files. A big thanks for taking a look!! I'm not getting my hopes up too high, but if you can't do it I don't think anyone can!

Hi Vincenzo,

I don't bring good news.

It is hard to see how the image got corrupted like this.  The file
structure is fine but the image data itself seems corrupted.
Also, very oddly, both the thumbnail image and the preview
image are of 3 old ladies sitting at the back of a bus, while
the main raw data image is of a building.  The date
is 2009:05:31 for the corrupted image.  Is this the correct
date for the building, or the ladies on the bus?  I suspect
the latter, which could indicate that the entire start of the
entire start of the file was overwritten by the ARW of
the old ladies.

I tried a few things, but I couldn't see how the raw data
could be repaired.

Sorry.

- Phil

Very kind of you to take a look Phil!! The one of the old ladies is the one I wanted to save and has the earlier date, 31 I think. I managed to get the jpeg of it, but its a small size. I feared it was not recoverable. What actually happended was I had a compact flash failure while working in Russia. The recovery programme I used managed to save about 95% of the picures from the card, but some, like the nice one of the old ladies is obviously beyond reasonable repair.  Thanks again, very much appreciated!!

ExifTool 8.04 has now been officially released.

Since my last post on this subject I have obtained ARW samples for the
A500 and A550, and the Adobe utilities show the same color problems
with these images.   I have submitted a bug report to Adobe, so with
any luck they will fix this problem.

Also since my last post I have added the Sony IDC utility to the
list of compatible sofware.  It doesn't have any problems like the
Adobe utilities.  One interesting thing I discovered in this testing
is that IDC v3.0 will crash when loading some original A100 firmware
1.00 ARW images,  but it no longer crashes if the image if first edited
with exiftool.  (So in this way, exiftool is more compatible with the
Sony utilities than this version of the A100 firmware, which is a bit
humorous I think.)
