missing arg to exiftool when modifying IPTC?

I just noticed that the argument that gui is sending to exiftool when I try to modify IPTC is:

exiftool -L -overwrite_original -P -m - -iptc:By-line=A. Foooo Baaaaar -iptc:CopyrightNotice=(c) Copyright by A. Foooo Baaaaar *.*

Note the isolated - in the middle after -m.  If I try to do similar things to exif or xmp, what appears in that position is -v0.  Has "v0" been accidentally omitted?
