Dngs w/ Lightroom 4 - SubIFDs being ignored

When the "Embed Fast Load Data" option is selected in Lightroom 4, and I save the metadata/embedded preview to a DNG file, ExifTool warns that it is "Ignoring 2 SubIFD directories."

Problems with the Fast Load option have been mentioned elsewhere, including here:  http://forums.adobe.com/thread/974661?start=0&tstart=0

Any thoughts?  (If it is helpful I can send a sample file separately.)

The DNG Version reported in the file is Version 1.3.0.0.

Even though it reports DNG 1.3, LR4 uses DNG 1.4 extensions.  I have been patiently waiting for the DNG 1.4 specificaiton, but haven't seen it yet.

But I have played with some of these new DNG files files, and didn't see the "ignoring SubIFD" warning.  Exactly what command line where you using?  You can send a sample file to philharvey66 at gmail.com

Thanks.

I used ExifToolGUI and displayed metadata using the "ALL" button.  Not sure exactly what options ExifToolGUI uses for generating this.

I will send the file separately.

run exiftool -v on the file I have emailed you separately -- you should see the error message.

Thanks for the sample.

There is also new XMP information in this image.  I hope they come out with a new XMP specification too, but they tend to lag about a year behind with these documents. :(

The problem is simply that there are more SubIFD's than ExifTool expects, so ExifTool issues a warning and doesn't extract information from the last 2 SubIFD's.  However, these extra SubIFD's are probably only for the new fast-load previews, so no big deal if they aren't extracted.  ExifTool doesn't complain when writing this file, and everything seems to work fine for writing.

I'll update ExifTool so version 8.89 will extract information from these SubIFD's.

Thanks for the report, and for the sample DNG.
