Geocoding Photos

Forum Members,
I am attempting to develop an efficient system for geocoding large quantities of photos for processing and publishing through Adobe Lightroom. The ultimate goal being a labor saving process that will automatically populate the Title, Caption, GPS, Altitude and Direction metadata fields in Lightroom. I have succeeded in automatically populating the Title and Caption fields but the GPS, Altitude and Direction fields remain elusive.

I currently use a QStarz GPS data logger for capturing lat/long coordinates. I syncronize my camera's internal clock with the GPS and simply take photos. At the end of the day I upload the photos and GPS telemetry from the data logger to my computer. The GPS data is saved as a NEMA file. The photos and NEMA file are next loaded into a program called RoboGEO. RoboGEO matches the photo's time metadata with the data logger's coordinate/time output. Since the data logger records a lat/long coordinate every second the GPS location of the photo is quickly and easily found, matched and linked.

The next step is to save and export the linked info via a Shape file. The Shape file is then opened as an Excel spreadsheet with a CSV extension. This can then be imported directly into Lightroom via the Lightroom Transporter (LR Transporter) plugin utility. When executed this utility will automatically populate many metadata fields in Lightroom. Problem being is that LR Transporter does not appear to offer selections (Select Destination Field) that corresponds to and allows for the population of GPS, Altitude and Direction fields that Lightroom offers.

I apologize in advance if the explanation of my challenge is not as clear and complete as it maybe could be. I will certainly respond to questions/comments to clear up any misunderstandings.
Best regards, Hap

Have you taken a look at the Geotagging with ExifTool page?  It seems that you could skip a few steps, as ExifTool can geotag directly with the NMEA files (assuming you mean NMEA, googling NEMA gave me nothing relating to geotagging).
"It didn't work" isn't helpful. What was the exact command used and the output.
Read FAQ #3 and use that cmd
Please use the Code button for exiftool output

Please include your OS/Exiftool version/filetype
