Sorry if this is the wrong section (or my message within the other section)?

But I found out the latest ExifTool Release (9.77) is not working proper any-more with ExifTool GUI (5.15)
See message under the section of ExifTool GUI

This is very surprising.  I try really hard to maintain backward compatibility.  I don't see any changes in 9.71 that might be responsible for a problem like this.

If you can provide some details about what is broken, it would be really helpful.  Are there any error messages?  I don't have access to my Windows system for about a week, so I can't try this myself for a while.  Have you tried running exiftool.exe from the command line to be sure it works on your system?

If there really is a problem, I should be able to fix it.

Hi!

I have a couple of D700 nef files and no problems with ExifToolGUI 5.15 and ExifTool 9.77, reading and writing works fine, like with other supported formats. Windows 7/64.

Thanks Mart,

I was hoping that some other people would weigh in.  I was thinking that maybe there is something else going on, so it is good to hear about other people's experiences to help narrow this down.

First I want to apologize for very late responding to previous message. (Has to do with my general health).
Still the errors are there, now by using   exiftool(-k).exe   version 9.85
Exchange by   exiftool(-k).exe   version 9.70  errors are gone. (Latest working version).

Made some screen-dumps:
- Starting Exif Tool GUI and pointing to original Nikon D700 camera file, Exif Tool GUI is "hanging"
There is showing a "process duration circle" and doesn't end.  See < TOTAL VIEW >

- When going to the menu under "Program"----> "About"
   exiftool(-k).exe   version 9.85   is showing:

Where as:
   exiftool(-k).exe   version 9.70   is showing:

- As for  version 9.85  trying to close the application by clicking to the "X"-mark at the upper right side of the window.
It doesn't close, but do get error messages, changing from one message to the other
when trying to close the window for several times.

If you want an example camera file, you can download a packed Nikon D700 NEF-file into zip < HERE >

For proper understanding, these are the files and folders as used for ExifTool GUI:

The problem maybe could be found, as I have a relative long text-line for Copyright set within the camera EXIF-information ??

UPDATE:

I did find the solution myself !!

Looking to this message as of version 9.70

Two files are not found:
- jhead.exe       = missing
- jpegtran.exe   = missing

Just by collecting these files as found within the folder  "jhead_jpegtran"

And copying to the main folder of ExifTool GUI, problems are gone. Also version 9.85 is working properly.
Just by seeing my screen-dumps, i noticed the differences. So it was a good job to put it here.

Apologise for inconvenience.
(By finding solution I have taken away my picture for download in previous message for private reasons).

Hi Leon,

Great.  I'm glad you figured it out.

Thanks for posting the solution, and I hope your heath situation improves.
