I initially got the notice from Geosetter to update to ExifTool 10.21. I've been routinely updating for 2-3 years without problems. However, this time Norton said I shouldn't update, said Exiftool was "behaving suspiciously" and "was removed." The threat name was SONAR.Heuristic.142. That was on June 30. Unfortunately, My ExifTool version has reverted to 8.47! I don't know why that particular version was selected rather than 10.20.

Today, I went to the ExifTool site and downloaded the Windows 10.21 exe to see if it would install. Norton said I shouldn't install. It contains WS.Reputation.1. I'm not knowledgeable of such things and am sending this in case it's important. Plus, no one else has reported this problem so far.

Is this a problem with Norton or is there really a threat from ExifTool 10.21?

Thanks.........

I assume that this is a false positive detection from the Norton scanner.

You can upload ExifTool to the following symantec site: https://submit.symantec.com/false_positive/

You have to answer several questions about your scanner, so I can't do this for you ..

Hello Phil,

there is also a web site from Symantec to put ExifTool an a whitelist for the Symantec antivirus scanners: https://submit.symantec.com/whitelist/

The disadvantage of this is, that you have to upload every new version of ExifTool to this website.
