Sorry for the down time.  I just got back from vacation to find that this forum server machine had been hung since Nov 24.

But it is back up again now.

This is the first time the machine has hung in a long time (since the old hard disk failed), and of course it happened just after I left on a week's vacation. :(

That will teach you to take a vacation Phil! Seriously though, hope you had a nice break and I'm glad all is back again.

Well, I checked the system error logs and couldn't find any indication of why the system hung.

Also, the S.M.A.R.T. status of the new disk is still good (no unrecoverable errors or remapped sectors yet).

So chalk this one up to a MacOS instability I guess.  ???

It hung again yesterday at 7pm, but I noticed at 10pm and went in to reboot the system.  Since this system is becoming unreliable, I'll switch to the backup system first thing in the new year.

The forum is now running on the backup system.  The primary system has been running fine since Dec 30, but I switched to the backup system now because I'm planning another week's vacation at the end of the month and want to have it running for long enough before I leave to be sure we have a stable/reliable system for when I am gone.

Minor glitch: The forum was down for a bit because the system went to sleep.  Doh.  Energy Saver preferences now set properly.
