Hi Phil,
first of all thanks a lot for this tool, we are able to open sony a9II raw files in older versions of lightroom.
i was hoping to repeat this magic for sony A7SIII files as well.
when i try the below command, it give a warning and the files are not recognized in lightroom6.14.
will this work in the upcoming versions of exiftool? i tried in 12.06 version.

exiftool.exe -SonyModelID="ILCE-9" -overwrite_original a7s002.ARW "c:\temp\a7spictures"
Warning: [minor] Oversized SubIFD StripByteCounts (24424448 bytes, but expected 2137139)

i tried with 12.07, no luck.

Does LightRoom recognize the file if you change the Model back again?

If so, then there is something else that is different with the A7SII files that is causing the problem.

In general, this only works if the two cameras have the same sensor.  Is the A7SII sensor the same as the A9?

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).

The sensor is not the same in A9 and A7s3. I didn't try to change the modelid back.

It's quite likely that your older version of LR won't be able to read it because it's a newer format.  There would be nothing exiftool can do to change this.  You might try converting it to a DNG.
"It didn't work" isn't helpful. What was the exact command used and the output.
Read FAQ #3 and use that cmd
Please use the Code button for exiftool output

Please include your OS/Exiftool version/filetype

I have capture one, but I keep going to LR and postpone learning captureone.
I was able to get away with the A9 cameras so thought I would get lucky this time as well...
