Reading metadata from HEIC and XMP sidecars

Will exiftool pick up an xmp sidecar with same image name with standard dump to text commands?

Example: if IMG_001.heic and IMG_001.xmp exist - then will "exiftool -s IMG_001.heic" pull XMP tags from the sidecar?

No.  Exiftool will only read one file at a time, either the image or the sidecar.
"It didn't work" isn't helpful. What was the exact command used and the output.
Read FAQ #3 and use that cmd
