Hi,

Please forgive my ignorance about this technology.

I am a programmer, whose brother just asked me a favor. He has just purchased Photo Mechanic to enter information into images with. He has asked me if I can build a User Interface where he can do queries and run reports on the data in the images and send that data into a spreadsheet such as Excel or Numbers (a Macintosh spreadsheet program).

He's going to send me more information about what he wants tomorrow... but I'm so curious about how I can best help him that I did some searching of the web this evening and found this site.

He prefers to use a Macintosh and I usually program for Windows. Right now I'm programming Dot Net Windows Applications, but I can program anything.

My question: How do I quickly make him (or obtain for him if there already is one) such a User Interface.

Again. thank you for your patience with me, as I am an absolute newbee with this technology... Though I am a quick study.

Best Regards,
Anne

Hi Anne,

I can't help you with the user interface, but you can certainly use ExifTool in either Windows or on the Mac to handle the import/export of metadata.  See FAQ number 12 for some examples of exporting information to a database.

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).
