If I put a date stamp on a photo after the photo is taken, is there a way to add this date to the thumbnail?  Sorry really new.

Are you talking about a date stamp on the image itself?  ExifTool doesn't do image manipulations, so you would need to do this with some other software.

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).
