Phil, you mention here that editing EXIF in video files is on the to do list.  Would that include the ability to create a new EXIF block in an MP4?

Also, might it be possible to extract EXIF and MakerNotes as a block from video files?

I have some videos created by my old Nikon D5000.  These are AVI files and some Nikon MakerNotes embedded in them.  I was thinking it would be nice to convert them to MP4s or MKVs (depending upon compatible codecs) but doing so would lose these MakerNotes. To prevent the loss of the MakerNotes, they would need to be copied to the new files.

If it wasn't possible to create EXIF/MakerNotes from scratch, could it be possible to extract the data as a block to save in an MIE sidecar?
"It didn't work" isn't helpful. What was the exact command used and the output.
Read FAQ #3 and use that cmd
Please use the Code button for exiftool output

Please include your OS/Exiftool version/filetype

No.  There is no standard location for this.  :(

This is perhaps possible, depending on how the EXIF is stored.

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).
