hi im a newbie struggling my way through the process of extracting gps data from the insta360 pro 2 and creating a kml for a 'track map'.  i have managed through much reading to be able to extract all kinds of gps data formats but have failed to utilize any of it.  my latest attempt was   C:\Users\Jim_M>exiftool -p kml.fmt -ee3 C:\Users\Jim_M\Videos\VID_20210322_134154_20210330102825.mp4 > VID_20210322_134154_20210330102825_test.kml   the kml was generated but i ran into this when trying to execute

Open of file "C:\Users\Jim_M\VID_20210322_134154_20210330102825_test.kml" failed: Parse error at line 1, column 0:

   syntax error

any suggestions?

thanks

Trying to run what?  Is that what the exiftool command you listed returns?

Try opening the kml file with a text editor like notepad.  Does it look correct?  Or does it say something like "kml.fmt" over and over?
* Did you read FAQ #3 and use the command listed there?
* Please use the Code button for exiftool code/output.

* Please include your OS, Exiftool version, and type of file you're processing (MP4, JPG, etc).

yes i only get Kml_track.fmt over and over

i was using   C:\Users\Jim_M>exiftool -ee -p kml_track.fmt C:\Users\Jim_M\Videos\VID_20210322_134154_20210330102825.mp4 > VID_20210322_134154_20210330102825_test2.kml

i found a post showing that command

That means that exiftool can't find the kml.fmt file.  Save it from that link into the directory you are running the command from or put a full path to the file after the -p (-printFormat) option.

PH Edit: Put output in a code block.

Phil Harvey

At the command line, try this (I think the "more" command works like this in Windows):

more VID_20210322_134154_20210330102825_test2.kml

This should show you the start of the KML file, which will help with debugging.

I don't know where the syntax error is coming from.  There isn't an "&#39" in kml_track.kml.

Maybe it would be better to debug this with a smaller file if possible.  Then you could upload it and we could try it out to see if we can reproduce the problem you are having.
