Phil, you might find this file interesting.

I was answering a question on StackOverflow and the file in question had a second, erroneous DateTimeOriginal tag in IFD0 which was just hex values of the correct date.  A quick look seems to indicate that it has been edited with a couple programs called QBase 3D and PPK Geotag.  I'm not sure which might have corrupted the data, though in the past, Sony has put ModifyDate in the incorrect subgroup.
* Did you read FAQ #3 and use the command listed there?
* Please use the Code button for exiftool code/output.
 
* Please include your OS, Exiftool version, and type of file you're processing (MP4, JPG, etc).

Ha.  Yes.  I haven't seen this before.  It is just an invalid format code (TIFF field type is 1=BYTE, but it should be 2=ASCII) .

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).
