trouble with changing date/time

I was using exiftool to change filenames to be in chronological order, but four files worked out to the same time.  Seems like there must be a bug in the iPhone if two pictures aren't tagged ten microseconds apart.

The pictures were taken from a moving bus, so it was easy to determine the right order and specify slightly different times.  The first command did change the times, but not to the times I asked for!

Subsequently, I have run the following commends at least three times.  Each time, none are changed and there are no error messages.

exiftool -GPSDateTime='2018:03:29 13:01:43.4Z' -DateTimeOriginal='2018:03:29 15:01:43' 20180329_150145.HEIC
exiftool -GPSDateTime='2018:03:29 13:01:48Z' -DateTimeOriginal='2018:03:29 15:01:48' 20180329_150146.HEIC
exiftool -GPSDateTime='2018:03:29 13:01:46.6Z' -DateTimeOriginal='2018:03:29 15:01:47' 20180329_150147.HEIC
exiftool -GPSDateTime='2018:03:29 13:01:45Z' -DateTimeOriginal='2018:03:29 15:01:45' 20180329_150144.HEIC

Actually, the first two times, I had them only one second apart, 44/45/46/47.  The third time, I made the gaps bigger, as shown above.

Are you checking the results with exiftool or some other program?

Does exiftool respond that the files were changed?

I've run your listed commands and exiftool is updating the heic file I have with the correct times.
* Did you read FAQ #3 and use the command listed there?
* Please use the Code button for exiftool code/output.

* Please include your OS, Exiftool version, and type of file you're processing (MP4, JPG, etc).

All four attempts had no error messages but said (for each command), "1 file updated"

On the first attempt, it's possible that I had the commands mixed up to make them out of order.  But it's frustrating that the times reported by exiftool afterward keep showing the time hasn't changed (except for the first one).

I do only two to five directories each day because there's a lot of other work outside of exiftool's scope.  So I'll have to watch for a similar issue to happen again.

What is the result of this command on a file that shows no change, before and after
exiftool -time:all -G1 -a -s /path/to/files/

I'll have to try that if and when it happens again.
