Help needed understanding error message

Hello,

I have a collection of prints I scanned with my CanoScan and produced JPGs. I wanted to document them using EXIFtool GUI. But I do get an error message:

Error: Can't read ExifIFD data - Abzug_0017.jpg

If I load the image into PhotoShop and edit the metadata there, it works fine.

What is the reason for this error message? Is there a way to repair this?

Odds are that the EXIF data is corrupted.  You can try the second command in FAQ #20, which only rewrites the EXIF data, but some of the metadata may be lost.

You can look at this with the -htmlDump feature if you want to see exactly what is happening.
