I've been out of the exiftool world for a while but I now have an issue and I need some assistance to prime my head how this wonderful tool works.
I've scanned in a large collection of B&W negatives from the '70s and '80s and want to exchange the 'Camera Model Name' to the actual camera I used to take the pictures. I have other changes too but if I can figure this one out I'm sure the others will be easier.

To read the tif image I did this;
exiftool /file name...\ Photos/1976-18-31.tif
and the tag I want to replace is this:
Camera Model Name               : OpticFilm 8200i

After looking at exiftool -G for that image I get;
[EXIF]          Camera Model Name               : OpticFilm 8200i

But how do I get just that one value back?
exiftool -exif:'camera model name' /Volumes/M1TSSD/Scanned\ Photos/1976/1976-18-31.tif
Returned; Invalid TAG name: "exif:camera model name"

How do I get just the one value back? And then how do I change it? Examples help me the most, I'm very show-me oriented...
Thank you.

See FAQ #2.  You're looking at the tag description, not the tag name.  FAQ #3 is also worth reading.  IMO, that is the command that should always be used.

To view just that tag, you would use
exiftool -G1 -a -s -Model /path/to/files/

To set that tag, you would use
exiftool -Model="My Camera" /path/to/files/

This command creates backup files.  Add -Overwrite_Original to suppress the creation of backup files.  Add -r to recurse into subdirectories.  If this command is run under Unix/Mac, reverse any double/single quotes to avoid bash interpretation. (Actually, that last doesn't matter here, as there is no dollar sign, but it might for any other commands.  This is just a standard copy/paste)
* Did you read FAQ #3 and use the command listed there?
* Please use the Code button for exiftool code/output.

* Please include your OS, Exiftool version, and type of file you're processing (MP4, JPG, etc).
