How can I open a Nikon D750 ".nef" raw file in EXIFTOOL ?

Open?  ExifTool reads/writes metadata in files as a batch process.  I don't think it opens files as you are thinking.

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).
