Google Takeout Date issue

Hi,
I recently exported all of my Google Photos (100,000+ photos) via their Takeout.

Initially, I was going to use Metafix to unzip them and hopefully ensure all data is kept.  But it got so far and then just hung.
So I then just used the Mac terminal to unzip them all, and it seemed to do an okay job, I thought.!

Now I moved them all onto my Synology NAS, and after it spent ages indexing, I have 40,000 photos on the day I did this (11th October).

A really kind guy via Facebook Synology group helped over the weekend, and took a look at a couple of example files.
I then also sent him the corresponding json file.

He said "of the 4 samples, all the ones with the date in the file name do NOT have a Date/Time Original attribute in the metadata.  Somewhere along the line that attribute had been stripped from the files"

I am way out of my league with this, but really want it sorted.
To have 40,000 pics in the wrong place datewise is super annoying.
To re-enter the date manually, will take me years.!

Any help really appreciated.

Does the date appear in the .JSON file?  If it does then you may be able to use ExifTool to copy it back to the image file.
