Google Photos has a feature to create some files and show the specific icon in gallery by type
ANIMATION (for gif)
MOVIE (for mp4)
STYLIZED PHOTO (for jpg)
COLLAGE (for jpg)

It seems it is not new tag, but probably missed
XMP-GCreations     Type

File and XMP export attached.

Thanks!  This will appear in 12.50

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).
