This is going to sound weird, but my approach of using XMP sidecars to get metadata into Lightroom for MTS files is failing. I have an option of using a John Beardsworth plugin that can sync same-named image files.

Is there a way to get exiftool to create a dummy jpg file with the mts metadata instead of an xmp file? This command fails

exiftool -ext mts -tagsfromfile @ -srcfile %d%f.jpg "-DateCreated<DateTimeOriginal" -r /path/to/files/

Guessing because it aint easy to create jpg files?

ExifTool won't create JPEG files out of thin air.  The best you can do is to create a blank JPEG sidecar for each MTS file then copy the metadata to that.
