I'm using exiftool 12.59 on windows 10 pro version 22h2
after several years running exiftool I now suddenly have an error when trying to use the cmd interface
If I run cmd Exiftool -ver
I get a popup stating:-
"this app can't run on your PC. to find a version for your PC check with the software vendor"
once the popup is closed I get access denied message.
If I run cmd as administrator I get the expected 12.59
Following on from this and still running as administrator any command I enter gets "Error: file not found"
for example
C:\WINDOWS\system32>exiftool -exif:all -iptc:all -xmp:all -file:all "Z:\OurPhotosSlideshowsSoundTracks\Photos\Visits" -r
Error: File not found - Z:/OurPhotosSlideshowsSoundTracks/Photos/Visits
The file path is correct and command is one I have used for several years.
any help on this much appreciated
regards
Dave

Try setting an exception/exclusion  for exiftool in any antivirus program you are running.

For Windows Defender, see this page.

I'm currently running Windows pro as well and don't have a problem running exiftool with Defender and don't have an exception set for it.
* Did you read FAQ #3 and use the command listed there?
* Please use the Code button for exiftool code/output.

* Please include your OS, Exiftool version, and type of file you're processing (MP4, JPG, etc).

Hi Stargeek,
thanks for your quick reply.
This seems to have sorted my problem OK.
Not sure why my PC would suddenly need exclusions added to my anti-virus software when there have been no updates or reboot.
Please close as resolved
