Hi there.

-list displays all tags, but I was wondering if there was a way to list either all tags in only a specified group, else have the entire list grouped by... groups!

I'd like to display all tags to users by groups, and this would be great beause if it was done through the command-line, it would be up-to-date even if exifTool was upgraded.

Thanks for any suggestions

Sounds like a reasonable suggestion... It wasn't too difficult to add, except that listing tags by specific IFD would be difficult so I don't allow this.  But you can list by any other group.

The syntax is:

Code:
   exiftool -list -GROUP:all

This feature will appear in ExifTool 5.98, and I have made a https://exiftool.org/Image-ExifTool-5.98.tar.gz" target="_blank">pre-release available for download so you can test it out before the official release.

I've tested it out, and it works fantastically.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply and implementation. I really appreciate the work you put into ExifTool!

Me again.

I was hoping to use the group names with the tags, to differentiate between tags that can be in different groups. So I use the listing by group option and automatically prefic tags in the group with the group name.

But as it stands,

Code:
exiftool -file:comment='un comentito' x.jpg

does not work, even though

Code:
exiftool -comment='un comentito' x.jpg
does.

Any ideas why?

I'm sorry, that's my fault.  The comment is a special case since it really doesn't fit
into any of the ExifTool groups.  For the user interface I have lumped it in with the File group,
but internally it actually exists in its own special group.  I thought I had made use of the
File group consistent in the interface, but I had missed this.

Thanks for pointing it out.  The problem will be fixed in release 5.99, and I have made a
https://exiftool.org/Image-ExifTool-5.99.tar.gz" target="_blank">5.99 pre-release
available for you to use until it is released officially.

There shouldn't be any problems like this with the other groups.
