exif tool creating weird file

I am using the 6.74b exif tool to wipe out all IPTC metadata from image files (exiftool(-all= -k).exe), but I seem to be having a strange problem recently.  When I drag/drop a file over the icon, the image updates; however, another file is created. (Example:  when I drop the file image.jpg, the image is updated, but another file appears in the same location named image.jpg_original).  Any ideas on how to resolve this?

By default, ExifTool always backs up the original file by renaming it to
FILENAME_original.  You can use the -overwrite_original option
to force it to overwrite the original file, but if you use this option you
are responsible for backing up your files yourself.
