Hi!

I have a dng file (http://www.neurater.de/ebay/20070122-163952.dng" target="_blank">http://www.neurater.de/ebay/20070122-163952.dng) for which I cannot extract the IPTC data.

>exiftool.exe" -IPTC:all 20070122-163952.dng

Bad IPTC data tag (marker 0x38) - 20070122-163952.dng

Is the file really corrupt, or is it an exiftool bug? Other tools [idimager, Raw PhotoDesk] can extract information out of this file.

Best wishes

Oliver

Thanks for the sample image

The information in this image is written incorrectly.  The IPTC is contained in a Photoshop IRB resource inside the TIFF IPTC-NAA record, which is wrong.  This tag should contain a plain IPTC record.

What software wrote this image?

I've taken a closer look at this file.  Not only is the IPTC-NAA record
improperly enclosed in a Photoshop IRB resource, but also the Photoshop
IRB resource is written incorrectly:  The recorded length for the IPTC
record in the IRB resource is 2 bytes too long, which causes whe record
to run outside the bounds of the recorded data for this tag.

I'm surprised that anything would read this at all.

Yes,  good idea.  Post a link here to your forum post at Idimager for reference.

There was another problem that someone discovered in IDimager files using ExifTool,
and the IDimager developers seem to have been very responsive to solve this issue:

Lovely.  The post was moved to a password-protected Bugs forum, so now
you need an account at IDimager to view it.

This is an obvious attempt by IDimager to hide problems with their software
from potential customers.  Shame on them.
