Hi FrankB,
what I did:
I have downloaded the file: ExifToolGUI_install_6.3.8.0.exe from https://github.com/FrankBijnen/ExifToolGui/releases.
I run the installer and I selected the option you have recommend in 2nd screenshot of post#12.
Exiftool and GUI are installed on disk C now.
After installation I went to folder path: C:\Program Files\ExifToolGUI (created by installer).
In this folder I have copied the file exiftool.exe and renamed to exiftool(-k).exe. Then I have linked this file to disk X: When I now drag and drop some files on this link (disk X:), I can see creation date, modification date, ... I like to use this to have a quick view and to verify GUI's renaming.
In folder C:\Program Files\ExifToolGUI I also have created a .bat-file (post #11). This bat file is also linked to disk X: When I drag and drop vidoe files on this bat file, video files are renamed automatically and correct.
In addition, command line use also works now!

(I describe all that details if someone should have the same use case as I do)

Long story short: I am now super happy and really apologize all your support!

(Next project: Get exiftool running on Linux)

FrankB

Glad you got it working.

Still puzzled why you copied exiftool after the installation. It should already be there.
Anyway. Good luck

Ah, I am sorry.
I meant, I made a copy (duplicate) of existing file
