I try to extract JPG from RAW with certain condition. But instead of the embedded JPG image, exiftool returns one line text indicating the total number of bytes created. The command looks like this:

exiftool -b -JpgFromRaw -w _270.jpg -ext CRW -r -if '$Rotation eq "270"' .

How can I get around this problem? Thanks for any help!

This should work.  I tested it here and it works fine for me.

Perhaps you initially forgot the -b option?
(Then after you added it, the existing files would not be
overwritten.)

That's the only thing I can think of.
