Hi,

I'm using PhotoMesa for annotation of images. Looks like this tool writes its information in a (custom?) IPTC tag. Here's what exiftool prints (options -u -g -s -a):
Code:
---- IPTC ----
DateCreated: 2007:08:19
TimeCreated: 18:25:43+00:00
IPTC_ApplicationRecord_203: ?<Photo Favorite="True"><Categories><Category Name="cat1" MutuallyExclusive="False" /></Categories></Photo>
ApplicationRecordVersion: 4

If I leave -u out, the info is missing. I'd like to check whether IPTC_ApplicationRecord_203 contains the substring 'Favorite="True"' (and then copy the file somewhere else) but I somehow cannot access the value via $IPTC_ApplicationRecord_203 or $iptc:IPTC_ApplicationRecord_203

Any ideas how to do that would be great.

Cheers,
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

To extract any unknown tag specifically, use the -u and
-s options to discover the tag name, then use -u
-TAG to extract the information.  You must use
-u even when you specify the tag explicitly since unknown
tags are not extracted without it.
