Add LensType to JPG-Exif?

I recently figured out that the Canon DPP does not copy all the Exif-fields to converted JPGs. For instance, LensType is missing. Unfortunately (stupid me) I have deleted some of the CR2 files, otherwise I probably could just copy the Exif headers. Nevertheless, is there any chance of adding the LensType Tag to a JPG file?

I tried the following:

exiftool -n -LensType=237 test.jpg

     1 image files updated

But when opening test jpg with DPP, there is no LensType information available. If thats somehow important, I use a Canon 40D, mainly with the 16-35 2.8, 24-105 f4 and 70-200 f4 lenses.

any of the makernote information to the new JPEG image.
I am surprised.

ExifTool can not be used to add or delete individual makernotes tags.
This includes generating makernotes from scratch, which is what
you would require.  However, as an alternative I would suggest that
writing this information to the XMP:Lens tag since this could be more
compatible with other applications (but likely not
DPP).
