Why isn't ExifTool renaming my .avi files?

I'm using this line:

exiftool -r -d /foo/%Y%m%d/%Y%m%d_%H%M%S%%+.2c.%%e "-filename<DateTimeOriginal" /Volumes/memory_card/

My problem is that it's only working on my .cr2 raw files, not the .avi video files that my PowerShot G9 outputs. As an example, doing:

Code:
exiftool foo.avi
shows this:

Code:

Any clues?

There seems to be a rash of
people with this problem recently.

Since exiftool doesn't support writing the AVI format, it
normally won't try to process these files when writing.
So you have to specify explicitly the files you want to
process, ie)

Code:
exiftool -ext AVI -ext JPG ...

Maybe I should look into changing this because it
seems to be a problem for many people.

I looked at my implementation, and it turns out to be fairly
complex to change the behaviour so non-writable files are
processed when only "psuedo" tags are being written.  So
I won't be changing this.

Instead, I have added a few FAQ (number 16) to help other
people who may have this same problem in the future.

Now that I know the solution to the problem it's no problem, thank you!
