UserComment field : auto update ?

I continue to study ExifTool... and I just remark something very strange. Here are the steps I followed :

1) on the file PA127482.JPG, I use the following command : exiftool "-UserComment<filename" -r "X:\my directory"

2) with XnView, I rename PA127482.JPG to p081012-141254.jpg. This file have "PA127482.JPG" in the "User Comment" field of Exif

3) With GeoSetter (which also use Exiftool), I add metadata to p081012-141254.jpg.  

4) When I check the Exif User Comment field, the value is no more "PA127482.JPG" (the added value) but the new filename : p081012-141254.jpg. It's look like a autoupdate of the "user comment" field.

Is it normal ?

I wanted to use the "user comment" field in order to store the orginal filename. How to do it if this field is autoupadated ?
