I've been trying forever to get my IPTC:Caption (or ExifGUI tells me it's called IPTC:Caption-Abstract) into a field that Windows Photo Gallery will pick up.

I've tried various combinations of:

Source = IPTC:Caption-Abstract, EXIF:ImageDescription, XMP:Description

Target = EXIF:XPTitle, IPTC:ObjectName, XMP:Title

My batch file code is:

"c:\Temp\exiftool.exe" -P -k -r -overwrite_original_in_place "-IPTC:Caption-Abstract>XMP:Title" "C:\Users\Vicky\Pictures\Photos\blahblahblah"

I'm having no joy at all! It writes to those fields but WPG isn't picking them up. Am I missing something?

Anyone successfully done this? I'm 99.99% sure it's a WPG problem not an EXIFTool problem but you guys seem pretty knowledgable!

Cheers
Vicky

You are not the first to have this problem.  See
http://www.cpanforum.com/threads/891" target="_blank">this thread.
There are many quirks in the way Windows handles meta information.

I suggest writing the information using a Windows utility, then
compare the exiftool output before and after you do this
to see what was changed.  Then use exiftool to do the same
thing.

I'm guessing that your problem may be similar to this:

"Remember that you won't see any XPTitle if your image also
has an ImageDescription"
