Trying to copy info from MakerNotes to ExposureTime EXIF tag. Help please

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I've tried lots of things but am coming up against a wall.  I'm guessing that it might be because there are multiple bits of information in the binary MakerNotes section but I'm hoping there's a way to do this.

I'm using a Canon PowerShot that after a certain speed, incorrectly reports shutter speed in the EXIF.  However, it correctly reports this information in the MakerNotes under "CameraInfo2[6]"  I would like to copy the shutter speed info from the MakerNotes section and have it replace the information in "ExposureTime".

Thanks for the reply, Phil.  Unfortunately that didn't work.

 I guess the basic question is "how do I copy the information OUT of the MakersNotes?" because that seems to be the problem (as far as I can tell).  The exiftool "-exif:exposuretime<shutterspeed" *.jpg doesn't seem to get the information from the MakerNotes

ExposureTime reads 1/2000
 
ShutterSpeedValue reads 1/2004.1
 
and CameraInfo2[6] (from MakerNotes) reads 1/2778.3
 

I'm trying to get the 1/2778.3 information to replace the tags of 1/2000 and/or 1/2004.1  I just can't figure out how to get the information out of the CameraInfo2[6] tag.

I didn't realize your file already had the ExposureTime value.  The
exiftool ShutterSpeed tag is a composite tag which takes its value from
ExposureTime, ShutterSpeedValue or BulbDuration, whichever is available.

To copy a specific tag from the makernotes (in this case it is probably
called ExposureTime), do this:

  Brilliant!  

I was completely stuck because I didn't know what the makernotes tag was called.  I kept trying things using "CameraInfo2[6]" because that was what I was seeing in PhotoMe.  But using "makernotes:exposuretime" did the trick.
