Hi,

I'm using Exiftool to get/set information in file from un .net program. So I try to use the XML output to retrieve the information.

I'm french and I use french characters in yje path and file names.

I found 2 problems
1- a path with a french character for example 'e ^e `u (I can't put them in this forum) seems to be not found
2- the file names given in the rdf:about attribute of the XML format is plenty of https://exiftool.org/forum/Smileys/default/huh.gif" alt="Huh" border="0" /> one per French character.

I try to use different charset starting by the Windows Latin1 (-L) but it doesn't fix the 2 problems

Thank for your help.

You've opened up a big can of worms with this one.

The real problem is that Windows does not properly support Unicode
filenames (see
https://exiftool.org/index.html#problems" target="_blank">the
list of known problems.  Also see
http://www.cpanforum.com/threads/10658" target="_blank">this discussion).

Unfortunately I have not found a reasonable solution for this problem,
but there are two work arounds you might try:

1) Rename the file if it contains special
characters in the name before calling exiftool.  This also avoids
the problem of ?'s in the rdf:about attribute.

2) Pipe the file to exiftool instead of having exiftool read the file directly.
This basically removes the filename from the equation.
