Hello Experts,

What am I missing? Exiftool is not responding to cmd line control.

Print_20091022# exiftool -ver
7.97

Print_20091022# exiftool -s -ImageSize -ExposureTime IMG_0801.jpg
File not found: -s
File not found: -ImageSize
File not found: -ExposureTime
======== IMG_0801.jpg
ExifTool Version Number         : 7.97
File Name                       : IMG_0801.jpg
Directory                       : .
File Size                       : 2.7 MB
File Modification Date/Time     : 2009:10:06 17:05:02-07:00
File Type                       : JPEG
MIME Type                       : image/jpeg

...

And then prints the whole EXIF list.

I pretty much copied the line from the man page.

Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Gert

PS. If I would have found the search function for forum archives I would not have posted this question. where is it?

Hi Gert,

You must use a dash character ("-") at the start of each option.
There are other characters which may look like a dash but
aren't.  I suspect that somehow these special characters have
gotten into your command instead of dashes.

The search function of this forum is near the top of every page.
Look for a button named "Search".

Hi Phil et al.

Hm, I did that. I copy-pasted the cmd line (minus the file name) directly from the man page and from the web page help. Whatever was in the man or www text was what got into the cmd-line.

FYI the OS is SUSE 11. Desktop KDE and console is standard xterm.

Any ideas are welcome.
Thanks,
Gert

PS what is wrong with the text formatting here? Seems the 'Preview' swallows all CR/LF.

Hi Gert,

Yes.  Formatting problems all around. https://exiftool.org/forum/Smileys/default/sad.gif" alt="Sad" border="0" />

The man formatting is a problem I haven't solved yet.  It depends
on your locale settings too.  This is a general problem for many
man pages, not just the ExifTool page.

And this forum uses HTML formatting, so you need to put
in
's if you want a newline.

Hi Phil,

Strange fix to the problem. KDE-Konsole works. Xterm doesn't. OK for me as long as I got my data converted.

Thanks, Gert
