Dear Phil, I am new here. I am not very PC-literate or Metadata-literate. I am on Windows 7. I am using Jens Duttke's PhotoME program for looking at Exif Data in my photos. Is it worthwhile for me to install ExifTool, or is it very similar to PhotoME? I ask because I am getting problems whenever I try to install anything new in Window 7, so am a bit cautious about downloads.

Hi Mike,

Jens' program has the advantage of a GUI interface.  ExifTool is command-line only.  From your description it sounds like a command-line utility may not be good for you.

The main problem with PhotoME is that Jens hasn't had much time to work on it recently so it is falling behind with respect to recent metadata changes.

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).

Thank you Phil, you may be right, especially as I don't know what a command line utilty is.

I've written to Jens about a couple of things and I'll see how it goes.

Regards,
Mike
