I am new to this forum and to ExifTool and ExifTool GUI. I think I followed the instructions at http://freeweb.siol.net/hrastni3/foto/exif/exiftoolgui.htm. However, when I click on the shortcut I get a message that "ExifTool by Phil Harvey NOT found! GUI does NOT work without it -see instructions."

I downloaded Image-ExifTool-8.35.tar.gz and ExifToolGUIv342.zip and extracted them both into the same folder. The subfolder Image-ExifTool-8.35 was created. I can't find exiftool(-k).exe anywhere. I made a shortcut to ExifToolGUI.exe.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks very much for your help.

Assuming you are using Windows, download http://www.exiftool.org/exiftool-8.35.zip and extract to same place as exiftoolgui. You should then see exiftool(-k).exe to be modified by you to exiftool.exe just by renaming the file.

Yes.  It sounds like you downloaded the full Perl version (Image-ExifTool-x.xx.tar.gz) instead of the Windows executable version (exiftool-x.xx.zip).

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).
