Keywording Work Flow & Lightroom?

I am trying to make my workflow for keywording less time consuming.
In the past I copy the keywords from a text file into the keywords field one by one after the images were uploaded.
This was time consuming and error prone, so I want to change it so that the keywords are loaded before uploading, and this way I can send fully keyworded images to different hosts.

Ideally I would like to get the keywords from a text file into the Lightroom4 original catalog.
The images in the catalog collections are a combination of raw, tiff, jpeg, with sometimes multiple versions of the same file with different develop settings, i.e. -Edit and -Edit-Edit etc.

Is there any simple way to do this, using ExifTool?

I tried LRTransporter but ran into problems on import with a persistent error and I am not sure if it is still supported in LR4?
Alternatively are there any third party apps that use ExifTool to do this?

Perhaps what I am trying to do is just not possible at this time.
If so I suppose the next best thing would be to import keywords into the jpeg files exported from the Lightroom collections.

Any thoughts appreciated.

I think you may have better success asking this in a LightRoom forum.  ExifTool can add keywords to images, but not to the LightRoom catalog.  Automating ExifTool to read from text files is also possible -- if you search the forum you may find some examples of this.

Hi Phil thanks for that info.  I will search more here and have a go at using ExifTool.

Posted the original question here because I think that LRTransporter uses an API to ExifTool for some of its functionality.

Also I guess most folks here are doing keywording etc will have done a fair amount of research.

I guess I am wondering whether LRTransporter works for anyone else or if not if there is anything else similar.

But I am coming round to thinking that ExifTool is might the way to go, for batch uploads of metadata.
