Hello,

I installed the wonderful tool on my MacOSX 10.7.3 and started the Tool with:

exiftool -createdate+=1 -modifydate+=1 /Users/daniel/Desktop/Korfu_iPhone/Runtastic-App_new

After that I get the answer:

    1 directories scanned
    0 image files updated
   87 image files unchanged

Then I used the following term:

exiftool -DateTimeOriginal+=1 /Users/daniel/Desktop/Korfu_iPhone/Runtastic-App_new

Same answer.

Also when I only give one file:

exiftool -DateTimeOriginal+=1 /Users/daniel/Desktop/Korfu_iPhone/Runtastic-App_new/IMG_1495.jpg

Same answer:

    0 image files updated
    1 image files unchanged

Also when I use the sudo-command in front, same answer.

Where is my fault?

Thanks :)

Hi Daniel,

These commands will only have an effect if the files contain this information.

Run this command to see what date/time information your files contain:

exiftool -s -G -time:all ~/Desktop/Korfu_iPhone/Runtastic-App_new

- Phil
...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).

Hello Phil,

thanks for the fast answer. Your words are clear to me. I was of the opinion, that a JPG-File must have a Create- and a Modify-Date.

I tried this with the first file of my folder:

exiftool -s -G -time:all ~/Desktop/Korfu_iPhone/Runtastic-App_new/IMG_1495.jpg
[File]          FileModifyDate                  : 2012:05:08 11:25:16+02:00

OK, now I can see that my files only have a modify-Date?! So I have to change the modify-Date:

exiftool -modifydate+=1 /Users/daniel/Desktop/Korfu_iPhone/Runtastic-App_new/IMG_1495.jpg
    0 image files updated
    1 image files unchanged

Hmm ... where is the problem? I have no answer. In the information-dialog I can see, that the files have a create- (Erstellt) and a modify-Date (GeƤndert).

Have you an idea?

Thanks

Daniel  :)

Hi Daniel,

JPEG files don't need to contain EXIF information.  If they don't, these date/times may not exist.

The FileModifyDate is not stored in the file.  It is stored in the file system.  To change this, use the "FileModifyDate" tag name:

exiftool -filemodifydate+=1 /Users/daniel/Desktop/Korfu_iPhone/Runtastic-App_new/IMG_1495.jpg

Note that ExifTool can not write the filesystem create date.

Hello Phil,

many thanks for your help and your cool tool. Now it works and helped me a lot. Thank you very much.

Greetings, Daniel :)

BTW: It would be useful for the users when you give a little ErrorMessage like this:

exiftool -modifydate+=1 /Users/daniel/Desktop/Korfu_iPhone/Runtastic-App_new/IMG_1495.jpg
    0 image files updated
1 image files unchanged, because of missing modify date in exifdata

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the suggestion.  I understand how this could have helped, but unfortunately things aren't that simple, and I think that adding this would be more difficult that it may seem.

However, as consolation I have added this case to FAQ number 23.

Hello Phil,

as a developer I can understand, that this isn't an easy job. But I wanted to suggest it, because it would help the users a lot.

Thanks for writing this topic in the FAQ. Before I asked here in the forum I was looking for the topic in the FAQ.

Greetings, PilotX
