The subject image is attached. If I view the properties in windows, under
Details > Origin > Date taken it has a value of 10/13/2012 9:10 AM

When I run the following in a linux box, I get the following:
$ exiftool -a -u -g1 IMG00075-20121013-0910.jpg

I am wondering why exiftool is not picking up the date taken field. I normally process all pics from my Canon camera as:
exiftool '-FileName<CreateDate' -d %Y%m%d_%H%M%S_A\ Description%%-c.%%e .
which works great. However, this command is exiting with:
Warning: No writable tags found

Thanks!

The "date taken" you are talking about is likely the "Date/time Original" reported by ExifTool.  Your command to set the FileName doesn't work because there is no CreateDate tag.  Try using DateTimeOriginal instead.

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).

Thank you for proving that not only I don't know enough about exif tags (which is okay), but I am blind too  :( I looked though the output so many times, but did not see the date/time reported under "Modify Date" as well as "Date/Time Original".

Thanks again!
