Hi Phil,

I'm preparing to embed IPTC metadata in some of the collection at the Center for Creative Photography and want to run a quick check to look for file format corruption or metadata corruption beforehand. There are several hundred thousand images to look at, so I'm wondering what you would recommend for this task? Is there an ExifTool command or set of commands that would perform these functions?

Thanks,

Edward McCain

Hi Edward,

ExifTool isn't designed as a validator.  You might try JHOVE for that, but I don't have any experience with this.

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).
