Missing lens model (Phase One IIQ files)

I have added LensModel tag to a Phase One raw file with Exiftool but their Capture One is unable to show it. Other tags, such as FocalLength, are ok. CO shows the LensModel added to CR2 files, so this is possible.
I have contacted Phase One's support, but they could not tell what's wrong. Maybe a conflict with private tags?

The back is H20, software is Capture One 7.1.3. The IIQs were captured tethered with version 6.
I can provide a sample file if needed. CO can be downloaded from Phase One, in DB mode it doesn't need activation.

Hi Sam,

The LensModel tag is a recent EXIF 2.3 addition, so I am not surprised that Capture One doesn't support it.  Other tags like FocalLength are old EXIF standards, and are more widely supported.

Before EXIF 2.3 (April 2010), the only alternative was to store LensModel in the proprietary maker notes.  Even since this addition, many camera manufacturers continue to store this information in the maker notes.  I suspect this is happening with your IIQ images.

Canon writes LensModel information in their CR2 images, but there is no LensModel in any of the IIQ samples I have on hand.

So, it depends on the file format: Capture One can read the same tag from CR2s but not from IIQs? In my case, both files were modified with Exiftool.
I checked Phase One's sample images. Some of them have their lens info in XMP Camera_lens tag. How to create it?

Or is the solution to just add Lensmodel (or other similar) tags to the files and wait for CO to support Exif 2.3?

Hi Sam,

My point was that if CO reads the proprietary lens information in IIQ files that it might ignore the EXIF LensModel, but perhaps this isn't the reason.

You should be able to write the XMP Lens tag with ExifTool.

I can't write to the Camera_lens tag. Is it a user-defined tag?

Warning: Tag 'camera_lens' does not exist
Nothing to do.

Hi Sam,

The name is really "camera_lens"?  Odd.  XMP-aux has a "Lens" tag that is commonly used for this.  "camera_lens" would need to be user-defined.

Hi Sam,

ExifTool doesn't write XML, so you may be out of luck here.

This is different from XMP.
