Question to -charset quicktime=
« on: June 23, 2019, 09:42:39 AM »
Hello Phil,

In a thread about CR3 files ( e.g.:,9544.msg49405.html#msg49405 you stated the following:
ExifTool only has limited write capabilities for CR3 files.  (Basically, you can only write XMP and some QuickTime tags.)
So am I right, that for these Quicktime tags -charset quicktime= is taken into account.

Also some FLIR tags are listed as Quicktime tags. So I guess also -charset quicktime= is to be used.

Thanks in advance
Best regards

Phil Harvey

Hi Herb,

You shouldn't use -charset quicktime=xxx when writing.  This is only used when extracting information if it was written using a non-standard encoding.

Edit:  Ah, but you are right.  ExifTool isn't encoding special characters properly when writing some QuickTime UserData tags.  Thanks for pointing this out.  I'll fix this.

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).
