Metada missing in some files

This is the first message I write in this forum and I hope that it isn't the last one. Nowadays I'm facing a great problem with some of the photos that my family used to keep on a computer. Unfortunately, this computer crashed several months ago and a new one had to be bought. All the information that was stored on the old computer was copied to the new one as the hard disk drives didn't have any problem. Well, the other day my mother tried to see these photos and some of them were corrupted so I'm trying to repair them. The problem is that I don't know how to do that thus I searched on the internet and I found exiftool application. I have used it to read the metadata information stored on the corrupted files but it seems that nothing has remained. So, I was wondering if someone could help me. I attach two images that were stored on the same folder. The first one, which is called IMG_1782.JPG, is a corrupted image and when trying to read the metadata information with exiftool shows the following message:

I think that if I copy the metadata information from one file to the other the problem would be solved but the -TagsFromFile fails when trying to do it. Does anybody know if it is possible to repair the images? Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but ExifTool can not be used to repair a file with an error as serious as "File Format Error".
