Exiftool does not recognize the makernotes of the Microsoft Lumia 950 XL DNG files. I have a dng-file I could make available if someone is interested to make exiftool support these files.

I don't have a DNG from the Lumia 950 XL, but I do have a JPG and after the first 12 bytes the maker notes have no discernible structure.  It is likely that they are either compressed or encrypted, which makes support for these very difficult.  But if you want to send me a DNG I would appreciate the sample.  My email is philharvey66 at gmail.com

The same issue with the 930 dng-files. I use exiftool to geotag my raw photos and would love to be able to include my 930 photos in the batch. I can send you a sample if that helps.

I'm pretty sure that it will be OK to write these DNG's, adding the -m option if necessary, but send me a sample and I'll take a look.  My email is philharvey66 at gmail.com

I got the sample, thanks.

There is about 21 kB of unrecognized maker notes in this DNG image.  The MakerNoteSafety tag says it is safe to relocate this data, so it should be fine to write metadata to this image using the exiftool -m option.

Hi Phil,

Did a run today of last week's photos but adding the -m option gives me the following message on all Lumia raws in the set:

Warning: Error rebuilding maker notes (may be corrupt) - c:/phototemp/WP_20160117_10_41_59_Raw__highres.dng
Warning: No writable tags set from c:/phototemp/WP_20160117_10_41_59_Raw__highres.dng

Tested with 10.03 and 10.09.

Phil Harvey

Yes, you will get this warning, but you can still write the file provided that you set some writable tags.

Sorry, my bad. I checked out some of the more recent files in detail and they were all updated with the correct geotag.
