...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux/PowerShell, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).

I think you should have a link to https://exiftool.org/dummies.html here or pin your exiftool for dummy's post (https://exiftool.org/forum/index.php/topic,3063.0/topicseen.html)  too.
