Newbie replace Text and äöü

I try to modify some ITPC and X fields to see in Windows Explorer
it works fine, but the text is appendes instead of replaced
exiftool  -Artist="Alex Zürich Switzerland"   "h:/fotos/2014/40 jahre_0007.jpg"

By the way: The ü will be translated in wrong character

The command you used will overwrite any existing value for EXIF:Artist.  It will not append the text.

See FAQ 10 for an explanation of how special characters are handled.
