Hello All,

Im trying to extract the original footage date from a number video files from a Sony Handycam DCR-SX65E - camcorder but exiftool -s -G file only provides limited metadata, see attachment.

Is there a way I can extract further metadata, I know that further metadata exisits in the file as a friend uses DVMP and can see a lot more metadata?

Use the -u option to see all available metadata, even that not recognized by ExifTool.  (Or use -v3 to see the verbose output with binary data dumps.)

If DVMP extracts more, it is getting it from the video data stream, and not from the MP4 metadata.  ExifTool doesn't process the video data in MP4 files.

Thankyou Phil, I understand that DVMP is collecting the metadata from the video data and it only shows up as the video plays, which raises two questions.

Does anyone know of another software to provide the video data?

Secondly is it possible to save a single frame from the video with the embeded metadata and then use exiftool to examine it?

Hi Wayne,

Sorry, I don't have an answer to either of these questions.
