Unless I am missing something obvious there is a tag called Create Date that appears in both or either of the EXIF and XMP metadata sections?

Why is this?

I thought the tag names were unique across all sections.  I am obviously wrong.  Is there an explanation for newbies that you can point me towards please?

There are many tags which have duplicate names.  One main example is the XMP-exif group which are often simply copies of EXIF tags.

As for why

Standards
* Did you read FAQ #3 and use the command listed there?
* Please use the Code button for exiftool code/output.

* Please include your OS, Exiftool version, and type of file you're processing (MP4, JPG, etc).

Actually, ExifTool attempts to make the tag names consistent across different metadata types.  This allows information to be more easily converted from one metadata type to another.

...where DIR is the name of a directory/folder containing the images.  On Mac/Linux, use single quotes (') instead of double quotes (") around arguments containing a dollar sign ($).

Hm.  I am beginning to think I shouldn't have asked!  :)
